The Junior Section of St. Ives Hockey Club is a thriving organisation. Beginning with a few enthusiastic parents working with children on Monday evenings back in the 1990s, it has now grown in stature with over 120 members aged from 3 to 14 years, as well as a dedicated team of coaches, assistants and parents. St. Ives Junior Section now play a vital role in the running of the club and is a vital part of keeping St. Ives HC at the top of the game by us coaching our own young players to the best of their ability so that can develop and feature in the first team we have today.
Weekly training sessions and participation in friendly competitive games and tournaments against local clubs allow all our young players to experience the exciting sport that hockey is.
There are opportunities for older players to take part in Saturday hockey at Badger level organised within the club to get exposure of playing on a full pitch in readiness for the step up to senior level.
Junior members are welcome whatever their age, experience or ability. Many players start as complete beginners but some progress to represent their County.
This season sees a major re-structuring of the Junior Section with a specific transition training programme. It is intended to strengthen the links with both the Men's and Ladies Sections.
5.45-6.15pm Hockey Sprogs
Our Junior lead coaches are Tracey Jago, Val Crack, Hannah Crack and Helen Clarke.
Your child will play in a group with similar ability children. It is up to the coach of that session to move players up to the next group, when the coach considers them mentally and physically ready to compete at the next stage. Age is not an indicator of the group that your child should be playing in. If you wish to speak to a coach about your child, please do so but at a time when it will not interfere with the session that the coach is in charge of. If you wish to speak to me, you can contact me, Helen Clarke (Head Coach), on email@example.com
