Match Report: A delayed start time meant it was already getting dark as the game between Cambridge University and St Ives got under way. The previous meeting between these two sides was a very even game, ending in a 2-2 draw; the return fixture was anything but. The students started brightly, dominating possession. St Ives held firm and, despite frequently losing the ball in their own half, the visitors defended well. However, Uni's pressure soon began to tell and they took the lead following a penetrating run from the right wing broke through numerous tackles to finish from close range. Two more goals swiftly followed, both were close finishes resulting from attacks on the right wing. Cambridge Uni boasted a team full of good players, but their right back was a cut above the rest and Paul Swannell, at left back, was frequently left outnumbered and exposed. At half time, in an effort to nullify Uni's right back, captain Ben Scarrow bolstered the left flank. However, Uni soon scored their fourth through another right wing attack with the forward scoring at the second attempt. St Ives did ensure that the Uni keeper had something to do and he saved well, sprinting off his line to smother a shot from Dave Land following an excellent counter attack. Saves from man-of-the-match Alex Ginns ensured the scoreline did not become embarrassing and St Ives held out for the remainder of the game. Though they were outplayed by a fantastic team performance by Cambridge Uni, St Ives can take heart from the fact that they did not allow their heads to drop in the face of such pressure and look to bounce back for the visit of Brentwood next week
