Match Report: St Ives were taking on Brentwood which is never an easy task having draw the previous two league meetings at three goals each. From the outset Brentwood had the lions share of possession however the area of the pitch was not causing St Ives any problems and Brentwood did not make the most of it. After the first 10 mins St Ives then produced their first notable attack and a reverse stick shot from Dave Land could have ended up in the top corner but went wide. Ives then showed their pace, skill and power going forward in a passage of play that would dictate the match and final result. After Mark Clinton and Allan Knox made sure that all 50/50's were being won in the midfield it allowed Derrick Pope freedom to glide past the defence and after taking the ball wide around the keeper he slotted home for the opening goal. What only seemed moments later Pope doubled his tally after being setup by Dave Land crossing the ball across the face of goal. A carbon copy of the second goal allowed Dave Land this time to score the third. With Brentwood ultimately shocked by conceding three goals in a short space of time meant the away side moved some of the player positions. Ives were in a scoring mode and Pope completed an early hat trick after excellent work from Wingers Alex Prestage and Darren Coles. With Brentwood being reduced to 10 men, after being warned any chance of the away side getting back into the game looked slim. Matt Chitty provided good support to the forwards as Ives kept the pressure on. In the second half Alex Ginns, Chris Duncan and Andy Land ensured a clean sheet with a well time slide and solid tackling to snuff out the chance of an away goal. Paul Swannell then went close as Ives ran the short corner routines. More Ives possession lead to Dave Land scored after picking up a rebound after a good save from the Brentwood Goal Keeper. Ives could have ended with six as Chris Bollom was played in a but a good tackle from the defender stopping a goal bound shot. With the match coming to a close there was time for Brentwood to receive a second yellow card of the match. Derrick Pope piped Dave Land to the Man of the Match award after taking his goal tally to double figures for the league campaign. Moving onto next weeks double header, first away to the tricky and skillful side Vauxhall followed up with league leaders Ramgarhia on the Sunday Ives know there are a lot of points up for grabs to push up the league table.
