Mens 2 vs Cambridge University 3

Big Win for the 2s!

Ives travelled to Cambridge to play the students knowing nothing but a win would do. Shocking everyone the captain chose a new formation with a new midfield quartet. Ives started the slower of the teams and conceded an early short corner. The energetic students continued to run but the experience of Ives started to gain control. GMac piled the pressure on the CBs who just gave up the ball, he beat the centre back and creamed the ball like a rocket into the bottom corner. Ives started to take further control, moving the ball with ease. Great work in the D allowed James Gale a reverse stick strike not expected from the defender. Mat Bamford chucking big aerials from the back found Piers Kitson who rounded the defender and slotted it home.

Ives 4th came from a well worked short corner which took 4 deflections the last being from Nat. The defence of England, Cooke, Paddock and Renwick continued to keep the students chances to a minimum.

Bamford went awol and found himself with the ball driving the baseline, into the D with the parting seas of the defenders he was able to reverse stick over the keeper for the 5th.

The 6th goal was the best of the day, the students winning a short corner with seconds left messed up and the counter attack was on. Following some lovely triangles the ball finds the net by a calm Nat.

Ives continue to build on performances and give the students a lesson in controlled hockey. Onto next week we’re we take on the Vets of the league and again a must win game!!!

Viva La 2s.
