Mens 3s Vs. COP 5s

While the dark settled in around Peterborough the St Ives 3s got ready for what would be the 4th St Ives vs. COP for the day at the Peterborough ground.

After watching our Ladies 1s confidently win their match 2-0, the 3s were motivated to get a good result too and started the game full of intensity. The play started going up and down the pitch, but after a quick set of great passes, the ball ended up with Jon Say in the opposite D and he got the first goal of the match. A quick 1-0 for St Ives after 4 minutes of play. St Ives did keep the pressure on and COP tried breaking the lines with long hard balls to their forward who was placed deep on the St Ives side. The first real danger from COP came from a short corner which was converted after some well-played combinations. This did not deter St Ives and they kept playing nice combination hockey and used the speed of the midfield for several circle penetrations. Isaac Morgan was on the end of one of these penetrations, he was in the exact right spot to tap the ball in the COP goal. Half-time score 1-2 to the St Ives 3s.

The second half showed much of the same play, although COP now deployed a couple more offensive players, but that gave St Ives a bit more room too. That extra space was perfect for the patient passes and quick breaks which once again found their endpoint with Isaac Morgan, who kept finding the right spots to be in to create the goals. 2 nice deflections in close range completed Isaac's hattrick for the day and that gave him a well deserved Man of the Match. With COP scoring 1 more from free play and having one goal ruled out due to a dangerous high ball, the score in the final minutes of the game was 4-2. COP started to put more pressure on the St Ives side which resulted in a short corner in the last minute of the game, which after some pinball play ended up in the St Ives goal, and that put the final score on the board 4-3 to St Ives. Back-to-back wins for St Ives 3s see them comfortably mid-table with 2 more difficult games to go before the Christmas break.
