Mens 2 vs Cambridge City Vets

2 wins in weeks…!

On a day when 3 points were expected, players were looking for goals or mom to get their name on teamo. However with Balding's goal drought, he took another route. Knowing he wasn't scoring currently, he continues to wear his swimming shorts on the pitch and was even keen to wear them backwards, it was clear he was keen to make the monkey moment his. As the game started, St Ives were feeling generous and gifted and goal to city, allowing their forwards to have freedom in the D and slot the goal away in the first 5. On the counter Ives played throw the lines and with Jacob looking to square the ball across goal, managed to miss hit and the ball rolled to their keeper, for their keeper to back heel it into the goal. 1-1. With this kind of generosity being shared between the 2 teams, it was again St Ives to show more generosity and refusing to mark in the D and soon became 2-1. This present sharing harmony normally saved for the 25th Dec but clearly being the Christmas month, teams had been swept up in the festive season. After 20 minutes, the game settled and it had started to look like a hockey game with teams finally being competitive. With some dashing leading work from St Uves midfield and forward line, City's defense was parted to leave a through ball from Bam to Jacob at P spot to deflect it in. Half time 2-2. After some better hockey from St Ives, Balding nicks the ball from their defense in the press, gives a wonderful 1-2 with Jacob and finds the back of the net with a fine chip over the keepers shoulder. Worried that his Monkey votes were in jeopardy, he was keen to assure his votes for monkey and manages to beat the keeper but hit it off the pitch. Monkey moment secured! Some more flowing hockey continues and with Ben able to remain on his feet, slots a ball to a leading ball to Balding, turns bangs it back post for someone to finish. Great team goal. Final score 4-2.
