Ladies 1 vs Cambridge City 4

Ives bringing the heat into 2023

St Ives came storming into the second half of the season with a 2-1 win against close rivals Cambs City 4s who before the match started, sat on equal points to the away side.

Torrential rain, multiple illnesses and loss of blood was not enough to distract Ives from the job in hand. The ladies in turquoise were 2-0 up within the first 15 minutes with a flurry of short corners.

Nat Gaunt fired home an absolute stormer of a straight strike, which was quickly followed by a well worked shorty calmly slotted away by power house Claire Young.

Cambs City found the back board shortly after to make it 2-1, taking the home team into the second half with a come back in their sights.

Player of the match Fiona Ginn continued to drive Ives forward throughout, supported by Emilie Smith, skipper Jules Griffiths and Nat Gaunt in particular, all fighting to keep that lead.

The second half saw Ives’ defence under greater pressure than the first, but Shelley Lloyd, Hannah Pegram and Alice Fryer mopped it up (as usual) to prevent any more goals from the home side with some attacking play from Jess Ryder driving up the right to counter.

A storming start to 2023 for Ives with admirable teamwork throughout. The game finishes 2-1 to see the ladies move back into 3rd position
