Mens 3 vs Cambridge South 3

St Ives M3 came against a tough test as they faced a promotion hoping Cam South 3s team on a very cold day

Upon arrival at the pitch at 0900 hours, the prospect of a game being played was looking quite remote, with the first game being called off instantly and the second game put at 99% chance of being off, it was a matter of 'would it stay sunny' to see if the 1530 pushback at St Ives would happen

Fortunately, with some sun and a bit of a workout from yours truly brushing ice from certain areas of the pitch, the pitch was ready to go by the time the later game came around

St Ives started off with the 4-4-2 they've been playing of late with skipper Joep at left back.

A good start saw a bit of early end to end play, some patient build up play from both teams and a couple of attempts coming out of the low sun at keeper Denman

Unfortunately, Ives were soon behind when a Penalty corner was awarded and a very well drilled routine from south saw a slip 1-2 -deflection routine put in at the goalkeepers left post.

A second goal soon followed for south who got a fortuitous deflection go across the goal, only for yours truly to have a hamstring attack just as he went to kick the ball, resulting in a limp pass straight back to a south player and the easiest DoD votes youll see this season

A second similar Penalty corner routine also saw South go into the break 3-0 up and Ives frustrated.

Ives continued to push and had a good few chances, however the game was truly over when Denman was adjudged to have intentionally fouled a player in the circle, with the ensuing Penalty Stroke scored to make it 4.

John Tudor received man of the match for his well positioned intercepts and defensive mindedness in the game, and for somehow not getting knocked out when a deflection from Cam South on a PC routine fizzed past him to hit the crossbar

Teas were sausage rolls, and the warmth of the bar certainly was a welcome place to be, with the pitch starting to freeze up again in the last few minutes of the game

In fact, some people liked it so much they didn't seem to want to leave....
