Mens 3 vs Bourne Deeping 2

The 3's get back to winning ways

The chilly afternoon did not dampen the St Ives enthusiasm for a game they knew they had to win. They started the game well playing quick passing hockey on breaking fast out of defence and Bourne Deeping got an early warning after a nice through ball from Andy saw Jon Say break the line and find himself 1 on 1 with the keeper who saved well.

Deeping however didn't learn the lesson despite falling on his arse DOD no kit Ranner threaded the ball to Jon Say who moved it on quickly for Ben who beat the on rushing keeper to the ball and dink it past him, a deserved 1-0 to St Ives. The visitors continued to press and 10 minutes later an uncharacteristic/ completely accidental areal from Pete fell to Andy running on to the D, unselfishly he slipped the ball to DJ to slot home. A comfortable 2-0 to St Ives at the break.

After the break St Ives level dropped and Deeping raised their game with successive penalty corners drawing a couple of good Saves from Denman before the pressure told to make it 2-1. Deeping continued to cause problems, but St Ives defensive veterans Tudor, Jago, Joep and Carl stood strong.

St Ives finally woke up again with 10 minutes to play for a final push and with 3 minutes remaining a driven ball through the top of the D from Pete was deflected in dramatically by MOTM DJ (who knew very little about it) to wrap up the points 3-1. A good win for St Ives which the travelling fans greeted with rapturous applause.
