St Ives hit Bury for Six

St Ives faced Bury St Edmunds for their first home league game of the season and it was the home side who made the better start. They pressed the Bury team back into their half and moved the ball with pace and purpose. St Ives opened the scoring through a close range finish from Pete Liddle before two smart finishes from Ashley Welland blew Bury away to open up a 3-0 lead. Bury did manage to get one goal back just before half time much to the disappointment of the defensive unit.

The second was more of the same with David Haslegrave finishing off a neat passing move before James Harris blasted home a penalty corner. Rory Mooney completed the Ives scoring with a neat deflection from an Alec Bryden cross. Bury were able to score two goals towards the end to take the gloss slightly off what was a dominant St Ives performance.

Man of the match went to Ashley Welland for his clinical finishing.

Next up St Ives face Wisbech in an early mid-table clash.
