Mens 1 vs Wisbech Town 1

Hattrick Harris part of miraculous comeback

St Ives Mens 1 visited Wisbech for their third league game of the season looking to build on momentum from previous week's victory over Bury St Edmunds. However, St Ives were awful for the first 15 minutes of the game and gifted 4 goals to Wisbech. At this point, many sides would have handed in the towel and given up, but not this St Ives side. Instead they went back to basics and started scrapping their way back into the contest. It was now the Wisbech keeper who was the busier as Ives began to create scoring opportunities from open play and penalty corners. Ives' first goal back came from Peter Liddle, with a predatory finish after great pressing in midfield. On the stroke of half time, Ives converted a penalty corner though a James Harris strike to get the score back to 2-4.

Ives were completely dominant in the second half. Wisbech could not cope with the pace of Ives game with chance after chance created. Ashley Welland scored Ives' third goal after a great deflected cross by David Haslegrave. James Harris then stepped up to slam home two more penalty corner goals to complete his hattrick. Ives further extended their lead to 6-4 with another penalty corner goal, this time from a Peter Liddle deflection.

A stunning turnaround that was as miraculous in its 6 unanswered goals as the first 15 minutes were awful in conceding 4. Ives will have to start better in games to come but can take huge heart from the final result.

Man of the match went to Andy Smith for a commanding performance in midfield on his debut.
