St Ives Ladies 1s vs Kettering 1s 0-1

Both sides started strong on a windy day at St Ives but some textbook play down the right saw St Ives dominate into the d and set the tone of the game. A few one twos between Olivia Watson and Abby Scarrow and the ball quickly made its way into the D, but Kettering put up a fight and kept the ball out the Goal.

After a battle for possession over the next 10 minutes, Kettering managed to secure a goal after a break down the line. Coming back strong, some breakthrough balls from Tara McCarter and Alice Fryer saw the ball back up the pitch and in to the D. With some great movement in the D, St Ives got the ball in the goal, however a frustrating end to the half with the goal disallowed by the umpires. Not defeated, St Ives continued to push until half time.

St Ives dominated the second half coming back extremely strong and controlling the game. With some transfers round the back, the ball was kept firmly in Kettering’s half. After pushing hard and some strong leads from Emily Drinkwater and Juliana Griffiths in midfield, the forwards were able to get some chances in the D. Watson made her way through the defenders to found herself one on one with the keeper. Although no Goal, Watson did manage to take out the keeper!

A frustrating loss for the team but we have really shown Kettering what we have to offer for the season! Player of the match went to Hannah Pegram for great play across the game.
