Mens 4 vs Bourne Deeping 3

Match Report

Despite the score, this match was well fought from St Ives and on another day could have been closer. A 12 goal thriller with almost every goal coming on the counter attack made this a good game to be a part of.

After going 1-0 down, Hingston managed to level the scores after a shot from Bigwood was saved and it fell in the D. A swift turn and flick at the backboard beat the keeper. Unfortunately, 2 more goals were conceded and it went 3-1 at the break.

After conceding a 4th and looking like the game was getting away from St Ives, a drilled ball into the D from Corbett found Hingston at the back post. Stopping the ball dead and fooling the sprawling keeper, Hingston tapped home for the easiest goal of his career in front of an empty goal to make it 4-2.

BD were soon to make it 6-2, before again Hingston latched onto a loose ball in the D after a short and flick it into the net after a Kellett flick bouncing off of the keeper. It was 6-3 and Hingston had his first St Ives hat trick.

Some more counterplay from BD made it 8-3 after some quick breaks and a good reverse finish. However, the game was not over and St Ives showed some real fighting spirit (down to 10 men at this point with Wickson off injured) with Kellett from the top D flicking home in a really tidy finish past the BD keeper.

Final score: 8-4. But some really promising moments.
