St Ives travelled to Cambridge for an early start and had a bruising encounter. Within the first 8 minutes st Ives lost their left back, Michael Balson, when the ball was deflected on to his head and then ricochet to a Cambridge player. Michael took the brunt of the impact and had to sit out the remainder of the game. With only 1 sub, St. Ives were now down to a bare 11. Despite spells of good passing and creating opportunities with the D, St Ives were unable to score. Cambridge had no such trouble and were able to get 3 in the first half.
With fatigue setting in the second half, more space was created in the St Ives midfield, which Cambridge were able to exploit with their youngsters. A deluge of goals by Cambridge in the second half, saw the score end 9-0.
