Ladies 2 vs Kettering 3

What a game we played on Saturday! Finally all our training is paying off: beautiful passages of play, one-twos galore resulted in goals, goals, goals.

As seemingly in St Ives 2s style this season, we came out strong and fiery and it wasn’t long before the goals starting rolling in. The first half saw a mixture of goals from both penalty corners and open play. Perfect positioning from the forwards ensured some glorious passes to the p-spot that found the backboard.

First half goal round up:

Dori, penalty corner power strike.

Bex, penalty corner slip from the left found the backboard.

Alison, solid as a rock Waldron found her way into the goal from right back position to power a shot into the goal.

Leights, moved with speed from her injection point to connect with a beautiful pass from the top of the D to strike round the left post.

Mands, drove forward from the left midfield position connecting with a pass from Dori to score in open play.

Bex, finished the second half with her second penalty corner goal. Will she avoid a jug - plenty of time still to come in the second half!

After the second half whistle blew, it was immediately clear that Kettering had been given a serious half time talk. They stepped up their defensive and attacking play placing St Ives under a little more pressure. Did this stop the goals? Hell NO but it did slow the pace. By the end of the second half Kettering still hadn’t defeated the fabulous Vicky W (who had been our salvation at her arrival) but more goals had been scored:

Leights, scoring her second from a penalty corner was the first goal scored.

Dori, led by example also scoring her second goal from a penalty corner (which she forgot - how she managed to avoid DOD is a mystery to me … and a set up!) ;-)

Leights, scored her third from a penalty corner. I hear you ask? Is still still downing her pint?!

Before Lucy Harris concluded the game at 10-0 with a glorious goal in a penalty corner.

Lessons learned:

1) Practice pays

2) Window of uncertainty

3) Dori fixed the DOD votes!

Congratulations everyone for a brilliant game, special congratulations to all the goal scored and even more praise to our POM Becs. Commiserations to me for DOD - next week must try harder!
