Mens 4 vs Cambridge South 5 

A spectators view this week… quite factual as I have to write it down during the game or else I erase it from my memory!!

With a bare 11 against a Cambs South team who are 5th in the league it was going to be tough… at least the sun was shining, although given the aforementioned circumstances I appreciate that’s only an advantage to the spectators!

Both teams started strongly, fairly evenly matched and lots of midfield play from both. We showed a couple of lovely bits of work in the D, but no early reward.

This was soon followed by pressure at the other end and a CS short corner, also for no reward.

The umpires had given a couple of warnings and eventually called both captains over for a lengthy discussion over stick tackles and frustration over some of the decisions.

A short corner just before half time for us. A lovely strike by Warren into the back of the net but unfortunately too high.

Quick off the mark in the second half, CS awarded a short corner and subsequent goal… that did count.

Lots of hockey played… about 15 mins but nothing much to talk about, eventually with the sun in Alex’s eyes, another goal for CS.

With nothing to lose from the next push back Jack decided to run himself, and got to just outside the D until he was fouled but it wasn’t picked up, apparently! We have spoken and whilst it was a lovely run through, I have advised that is best to try and let your team know that’s what you plan to do so they can come with you… some form of hand signal required!!

Another short but we couldn’t hold on to it outside the D.

Now, with knowing nothing about hockey, one thing I do feel able to comment on is how vocal we are as a team… today we were very quiet and we are definitely better when we talk to one another! 

I also feel some form of sticker/gold star should be awarded to Barry who managed to play the whole game!
